Update to the site coming soon

An update to the website is coming soon, along with a new version of notessimo working on HTML5 and Mobile devices!

I’ll post some more info about the new notessimo, but right now I want your opinions on which forum software to use for the new site.

Personally I would prefer not to keep invision since it’s not free and open source.

I’m thinking about http://www.discourse.org/, it offer modern features, mobile friendly, is free and open source, in active development, and has all the features needed (custom bbcode, custom login option, etc).

You can try a live demo here: https://try.discourse.org/

Working on mobile! Am I dreaming?

Wish I could be of more help with your forum decision. But I use pretty minimal functionality.

Demo looked much nicer on mobile than the strange blue version the site currently has. And the tagging categories might be useful.

I think Discourse is a great software to switch to; it looks a lot more flexible, and it even allows you to post from email, which is nice.

One other thing: how soon can we expect the update to go live?

Please make Krawkyz a moderator.

Why? There’s already enough.

My suggestions: Keep a similar theme. The dark theme suits the site well.
Keep most of the main features of the site, such as the Main Page featuring, well, featured songs, and the forums, obviously.
The focus of the site is creating and sharing songs, so keeping it simple to access to composer is key, maybe even putting it on the banner of the site (simply click and it opens). Having easier access to shared songs will help so much too. Filtering options, like filtering out featured songs in the search. Speaking of the search option, make it default search for songs, rather than the Songs in the News Section (why is that the default search filter?), as this always yields 0 results.
Browse should be more prominent as well. It should include a few tabs, “Recent Songs” being the most important, and allow for filtering directly in the browsing, as it already does.
The IRC chat and Groups are rarely used. These seem irrelevant at this point. I’d suggest removing irrelevant tabs.
Looking at the site, a lot of the features I’m suggesting are already used in some fashion, so my most important tip would be keeping most of the site as similar as possible.

Yay I’ll finally have a profile again and I can start a new

Do you know how well the mod tools are for discourse? I’m not too sold on the demo but I’m willing to adjust.

Will the new update remove all zazzes?
